India’s Independence Day is celebrated on August 15th. This is a very important national holiday, marking an important moment for the country to gain independence from the United Kingdom.

This was officially announced on the 77th anniversary of India’s Independence Day on August 15, 1947. He became independent that day, but Hindustan split into India and Pakistan.

History of Independence Day

Although the colonial rule had been in turmoil for nearly 200 years before, the Indian independence movement was promoted after the First World War. Mahatma Gandhi led an uprising against British autocratic rule and organized a passive resistance movement. Although the British government made some small concessions, it was not enough. Dissatisfaction in India continued to grow, and nationalist leaders like Gandhi rejected Britain’s empty promises.

In 1942, during the Second World War, the Indian Congress launched a Quit India movement to withdraw troops from India calling for an end to the British era and led the colonial authorities to arrest and imprison hundreds of nationalists, including Mahatma Gandhi and many more freedom fighters.

Despite these judgments, the number of demonstrations after the war increased. Then-Governor of India, Lord Louis Mountbatten, had the right to split the country before 1948, but this date was hastily postponed. The discussion about how successful, it is a controversial topic. The Indian National Assembly reluctantly accepted the establishment of Pakistan in 1947, and on August 15, 1947, the Indian Independence bill came into effect.

Significance of Independence Day

Independence Day commemorates the sacrifice of our brave freedom fighters, who opposed the colonialists and even suffered unshakable consequences, allowing future generations to breathe the air of freedom.

How India Celebrates Independence Day

On the eve of Independence Day (a national holiday), the President of India addressed the people in his office and broadcasted it across the country. On the morning of August 15th, the celebration started with the arrival of the Prime Minister of India. India received a general greeting from the guard of honor, which was composed of representatives of the three wings of the Indian armed forces (army, navy, and air force) and the Delhi police.

The Main highlight starts with the Prime Minister’s raising of the national flag, 21 simultaneous honorary shootings, followed by a touching performance of “Jana Gana Mana” (Indian National Anthem). Parades and competitions are dedicated to paying tribute to freedom fighters, parades of Indian armed forces and paramilitary personnel, and performances by students and various artists.
