In Sept 1995, some organizations, like International Rivers Network (IRN), European Rivers Network (ERN), Chile’s Biobio Action Group (GABB), and India’s Save the Narmada Movement (NBA) came together and performed a preliminary conference in Brazil.

Consequently, they created a global Organizing Committee led by Brazil’s Movement of People Affected by Large Dams (MAB). Further, the people of MAB determined that the International Day of Action For Rivers will be celebrated on March 14.
