The U.N. General Assembly specified the international Day of Friendship. On 1st August, we step back and get grateful for these relationships globally, as they raise and support happiness, peace, and unity.

The U.N. urges governments, communities, and other organizations to organize activities and events that celebrate our close friendships.

History of International Friendship Day

We live in a severe world. Between miscommunications, lack of trust, abuse, cultural discord, and discrimination, prioritizing love seemingly has less of a presence in the worldwide society.

The United Nations first introduced the International Day of Friendship in 2011; this special day runs beyond uniting people and creates bridges among countries, cultures, and even ideologies.

Relationships are more prominent than that, and the U.N. works to encourage togetherness and kindness every August.

Before the U.N. initiated its specification, the first World Friendship Day was suggested in 1958 by the World Friendship Crusade. This worldwide civil organization campaigns to promote friendly culture through friendship.
