National Girl Child Day is an initiative of the Ministry of Women and Child Development and is celebrated every year in India on 24th January. This day is celebrated to raise awareness about girls’ rights and to promote the importance of their education, health, and nutrition.

History of National Girl Child Day

National Girl Child Day, is a very novel initiative by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, which was announced in the year 2008. The purpose of this day was to empower girls from all around the country.

Significance of National Girl Child Day

Both central and state governments launch campaigns and form new policies to work on the betterment of girls from around the country.

The Indian government has taken several steps over the years to improve the conditions of girls. Several campaigns and programs such as Save the Girl Child, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, free or subsidized education for the girl children, reservations for women in colleges and universities have been initiated to reduce this discrimination.
